How SolveTap works

SolveTap lives in your browser, right where the problem already is. Install the free extension for your subject, capture the problem as a screenshot, photo or pasted text, and follow an explanation that names the rule behind every step.

Step 1 — Install the solver for your subject

Each subject has its own lightweight extension, so you only install what you need:

Open the extension's Chrome Web Store page from the links above and click Add to Chrome. Installation takes a few seconds, there's no account to create, and every solver is free.

Step 2 — Capture the problem

Click the extension icon in your toolbar and capture the problem exactly where you're reading it — a textbook PDF, a learning platform, a photo of the printed page, or plain pasted text. Three tips make the reading (and therefore the solution) more reliable:

  • Capture the whole problem. Include the full diagram, data table or circuit — in geometry and statistics especially, the figure is half the problem.
  • Keep photos flat and sharp. For handwritten or printed pages, shoot straight-on in decent light. Clear handwriting reads well; smudged pencil at an angle is a coin flip.
  • One problem at a time. Cropping to a single question keeps the explanation focused instead of split across sub-parts.

Step 3 — Follow the reasoning, then push on it

The solver first restates what it read — the givens, the figure, the question — so you can correct any misreading before it matters. Then it works through the solution with the theorem, formula or test named at each step.

The most valuable part comes after the answer: ask follow-up questions. "Why does that theorem apply?" "Show me another method." "Explain step 3 more simply." That back-and-forth is what turns one solved problem into a method you can repeat alone on the exam — which is the whole point. Read more about that philosophy on the academic integrity page.

Troubleshooting

  • The solver misread a value or label. Tell it in a follow-up ("the angle is 35°, not 55°") and it re-solves with the correction — no need to recapture.
  • The image won't read. Retake the photo flat and closer, or paste the problem text directly; typed text always reads cleanly.
  • The explanation is above or below your level. Ask for a simpler version, or for more rigor — the depth adapts to the request.
